You may be thinking of the old 160 or the 160a. I'm pretty sure I've read that a lot of people are using the 160SL on mix bus. Comps that sound large and make a noticeable difference. , BG-2, Chandler LTD-2, Retro STA, Neve MBP(my dream piece).things in that lane. Just to provide insight, comps that are out of my budget that I like a lot are the Overstayer Voltage Controller

I actually really like the successor, but I'm not sure if there's something better in the price range that I haven't discovered yet? I'll look into the T-Komp though. I'm not a fan of the 7721 or the r22, they do nothing for me really. I actually don't care if some material doesn't match character because I don't care to do what everyone else is doing. I just feel its great for gluing, but I want something that imparts a large sound, with character. Someone else mentioned the SSL being grubby maybe, but I don't feel that way. The one I'm mentioning was a flagship compressor that they came out with. You may want to consider a TK Audio T-Komp in that range, or a Chameleon Labs 7721, or maybe a JDK R22.I'm pretty sure I've read that a lot of people are using the 160SL on mix bus.

The Successor could work I've never used one myself so I can't speak on the sound.Īs far as the 1968, I've only used the 1969 and wasn't particularly impressed with it, to be entirely honest. You think an SSL is grabby? It looks smooth and subtle compared to the 160.
